How Do I Plan My Custom Shower Door?

How Do I Plan My Custom Shower Door?

When it comes to creating the perfect custom shower door, there are several factors to consider. At ATOG, we guide you through every step of the process, ensuring that your shower door is designed to your specifications and fits seamlessly into your bathroom space. Here’s everything you need to know about planning your custom shower door:

Does ATOG Direct work out the glass panel sizes?

Absolutely. All you need to do is supply us with the opening sizes, and we’ll handle the rest. Once you confirm your order, we’ll create detailed drawings and send them to you for review. Before we begin the manufacturing process, we’ll double-check and confirm all measurements, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

What is the maximum size for a shower door?

Our custom shower doors are specifically designed to meet your size requirements. The choice of hinges is crucial to ensure the door’s weight is properly supported:

  • 2 hinges can hold up to 36 kg, with a maximum door width of 711 mm.
  • 3 hinges can hold up to 54 kg, with a maximum door width of 800 mm.

This approach ensures that your door is both functional and safe.

How heavy will the glass door be?

The weight of your glass door depends on the exact dimensions. As a rule of thumb, 10mm toughened glass weighs 25 kg per square metre. Our experts will select hinges based on your specific door weight and size, ensuring the best possible fit.

Here’s a common example: A standard shower door measuring 2000mm x 600mm and made of 10mm glass would weigh approximately 30 kg, requiring 2 hinges. We handle all these calculations for you, so there’s no need to worry about the technical details.

Do I need to leave a gap between the top of the door and the ceiling?

Yes, if your shower area doesn’t have proper ventilation. In such cases, we recommend leaving a gap of at least 50mm between the top of the glass and the ceiling. This helps prevent excess moisture build-up and ensures good air circulation.

What happens if my shower door doesn’t fit?

If, despite our careful planning, your shower door doesn’t fit perfectly, we’re here to help. Our team will assess the situation and recommend which parts can be remade to achieve a better fit. We’ll try to reuse existing hardware to minimise costs for you. Once the necessary adjustments are identified, we’ll create a new design for your approval.

Key Takeaways

Planning your custom shower door might seem daunting, but with ATOG, you’re in good hands. We make the process simple, from working out glass sizes to ensuring the door fits your space perfectly. If anything goes wrong, we’re committed to making it right, saving you time and money along the way.
